FELIZ ANO NUEVO - HAPPY NEW YEAR

New years in Canada is not a big deal compared to the Fin de Ano in Spain.
Firsty there are many customs they follow.
1.) Red Underwear to give good luck
Although Santa Clause or Papa Noel doesn't really exist in Spain, he paid the Cabrera household a visit on Noche Bueno (December 24th). He gave us presents that we were to use on New Years. I recieved a purse (bolsito), tights (panties), and red underwear! If you read the post about Christmas you will read the story.

We began the night after spending most of the day setting up the house, and preparing the food
Around 7 we started getting ready in our fancy clothes. When i say fancy, I dont mean just a simple dress, I mean like a dress you would wear to a wedding or prom/semi. If you dont believe me look at my fotos. Having difficulties downloading them onto the blog, but if you have me on facebook, take a look. If you dont have me on facebook, feel free to add me.
My family is big on having a lot of people over at the house for dinners and parties, so we had about 20 people over at our house for new years. Mainly friends and family of Merci and Marcos.
We all sat down and had an ENORMOUS fiest (one of the things spain is known for). A plus to my family always having parties is that everyone brings pastries/cakes, but thanks to that and the enormous amounts of food they force me to consume, I am now super chubby.
After our meal and chatting, we moved all the tables and created a dance floor. We danced until it got close to midnight, then we gathered around the kitched table and watched the new years countdown in la laguna.

2.) When the clock struck Midnight, another spanish tradition to bring luck is to eat 12 grapes in 12 seconds. Luckily mine had about half a million seeds in them, so it was a lovely experience to crunch on 12 grapes with seeds. Chocking, suffocation and death were all a possibility. Being a newbie at the whole idea, I struggled, as everyone else had been gobbling grapes there entire lives. But, I can now saw I can fit almost 12 grapes in my mouth at the same time, I know how talented am I! I must say this is rather entertaining and I will be continuing this tradition even when i go back to canada. Mom Dad Pedro and Murphy, start preparing.
After the grape gobbling extravaganza we all went onto the street and blew our horns and went mental, when we went back inside we had a toast. Which Diana(my host sister) and I celebrated with Fanta and not champagne. Remebering the 4D's.

After kissing everyone a feliz ano, we split paths. I went with my friends to a GIANT new years party with 4 thousand people. We danced, talked and had a ball. Perhaps a smaller lower key party probably would have been better because I would have been able to hear what people were saying aja, but it was super fun never the less.
en fin, mi feliz ano nuevo pasado muy bien!
My new years was very good!
In conclusion New Years is a lot bigger of a deal then in Canada!
